Dr Karen Koks - Principal Veterinarian
- BVSc (Hons)
Hi, I am a local girl, growing up in Geebung and attending St Kevin's Primary School. I graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Queensland in 1983 and have worked in many northside practices over the course of my career. I love the diversity and challenge this wonderful profession provides, I can honestly say there is never a dull moment. I purchased this practice in October 2000 and have been working hard ever since to build the modern, well equipped facility we have today. In 2016 I sold the practice to National Veterinary Care but remain passionate about my patients and clients in my new role as Lead Veterinarian. I am very proud of the dedicated team of healthcare providers I have the privilege of working with every day....each and every person here is 100% committed to our mission focus which is "To be the BEST community veterinary practice in Brisbane".
I am a member of the AVA (Australian Veterinary Association), the ASAVA (Australian Small Animal Veterinary Association, the BVP (Brisbane Practitioners Branch), AVFP (Association for Veterinary Family Practice), the American Veterinary Dental Society (AVDS), the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management (IVAPM), the AVA Dentistry special interest group and VIN ( Veterinary Information Network) and have presented lectures both in Australia and overseas.
VIN is a subscription based internet community of some 40000 veterinarians world wide, which keeps us abreast with the latest developments in veterinary medicine, and also gives us the ability to access specialist veterinarians in over 50 areas of expertise.
My areas of special interest and expertise include dentistry, internal medicine and wellness and preventative medicine and I achieved my Membership in Small Animal Dentistry and Oral Surgery in 2015. I am blessed to have three beautiful daughters who make me proud every single day.
Dr Louise Michie - Veterinarian
- BVSc (Hons)
I'm Louise and I'm proud to be a member of the Zillmere Veterinary Surgery.
I grew up in semi-rural Victoria and the Sunshine Coast hinterland before attending the University of Queensland where I was awarded by Bachelor of Veterinary Science with Honours in 2006. Prior to joining the Zillmere Vet team in 2012 I worked in small animal practices in the greater Brisbane area as well as undertaking a 2 year internship in Veterinary Pathology at UQ.
My particular areas of interest are in veterinary pathology, internal medicine and preventative health care. I have also expanded my interest and knowledge in veterinary dentistry since working with the Zillmere Veterinary Surgery team.
My husband and I have two mischievous and adorable brown Burmese cats and have recently welcomed a French Bulldog puppy to our family – every day they make us laugh and wonder at their antics.
I look forward to seeing you and your pets.
Dr Celia Solorzano - Veterinarian
- BVSc (Hons)
I graduated as a veterinarian in 2015 from the University of Queensland and completed a Bachelor of Science degree there in 2009.
Prior to joining the Zillmere family, I worked at a small animal clinic on the Sunshine Coast. Whilst there, I developed an interest in surgery and diagnostic imaging and hope to pursue further study in this area.
I live with Napoleon the crazy Labrador, Pedro the corgi, and my cats: Alaska, Aretha and the newly adopted one-eyed Leela, as well as my human companion Nathaniel.
Emma Smith - Practice Manager
- Certificate in Animal Care
Hi, my name is Emma and I am Practice Manager here at Zillmere Veterinary Surgery. I started working here in July 2010. I have a real passion for customer service and animals so this role fits me perfectly! My favourite part of working at Zillmere Veterinary Surgery is working closely with our wonderful team and helping our lovely clients provide the best care to their pets. I have completed a Certificate in Animal Care and enjoy attending seminars to gain further knowledge to help our clients as best I can.
At home I have two lovely but lazy cats named Chilli and Pepper, and a beautiful Chocolate Tri Merle coloured Border Collie named Samira who keeps me very busy!
I look forward to meeting you and your furry family members!
Jess Kaddatz - Veterinary Nurse
Hi, my name is Jess. I started Veterinary Nursing full time in 2012 and haven’t looked back! I enjoy all aspects of general practice nursing, from bonding with our patients and clients to surgery and assisting with consults. I’ve attended workshops in dentistry, pathology and behaviour and have a special interest in behaviour and reproduction. I’m a member of DogsQld as well as a number of sporting clubs to help keep my 6 Border Collies busy!
When I’m not working or outside with my beautiful borders, I’m usually binge watching the latest T.V show with my husband and two rescue kitties (Penelope and Theodore Emsbry).
If you’re ever in the area, please stop in for a chat!
Katie Gunnell - Veterinary Nurse
Having recently moved to the area I am excited to join the Zillmere Vet Surgery team as a vet nurse. Last year I graduated from University of Queensland Gatton as a Vet Technician and have been working in small animal practice for just over a year and a half.
I have an 8 month old Staffy x Lab puppy named Willow who enjoys playing in water and going for walks. While I'm not at the clinic you will find me out for a hike, a horse ride or planning my next overseas adventure.
Clancy Buchanan - Trainee Veterinary Nurse
- Currently completing Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing
Hi, my name is Clancy. I have recently started placement at Zillmere Vets as a part of my certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. I love all things animal and am currently mum to 2 Great Danes, 1 Bichon Frise, an extremely naughty Cockatoo and an angry tiger, Oscar. I am enjoying my placement here as both staff and clients have been very friendly and welcoming.
TOULOUSE - CLINIC CAT
Toulouse came to be our clinic cat after being found as a stray when he was around 2 weeks old. We hand reared him and fell in love so decided he could stay. His favourite past times include sleeping in the linen cupboard, bird watching, breaking open bags of food and snuggling up to clients.
